~ Residential Resource Center for Medically Fragile Children
Early in 2004, a small group of people in Conyers began prayerful and thoughtful discussions about how God might lead His church into even greater service in the local community. Their charge was literally to listen to God, in part through the community in order to glimpse that vision of just what He would have them do to better serve the local needs for Christ. They sought out the leadership of many local organizations and churches to fully review and understand the needs of the community and how perhaps they could take a path of deeper service for Christ.
The result - a new and unique collaborative model, the Light House Village (LHV) brings together three nonprofit organizations on one campus in order to maximize resources and opportunities to better serve those in need of specialized care which is scarce, if not absent. Each group targets a unique service gap in our society. Joining forces on a 27 acre campus in Rockdale County to give shelter and nurture souls, while educating and empowering, LHV organizations will provide:
- Respite Care Home for Special Needs Children and Adults, operated by Rockdale Cares, Inc. This facility is intended to provide weekend, week day and night respite care, pending the unique situation of those seeking placement.
Rockdale Cares, Inc., an organization with 27 years experience providing loving and dignified care and programming for mentally and physically challenged members of the Rockdale County community.
Goal - more than 1,000 days of nurturing respite and renewal each year
- Emergency and Temporary Housing and Support Services for displaced families, operated by Rockdale Emergency Relief, Inc. These apartment facilities will provide housing for homeless families as well as a short-term shelter for families and individuals in crisis while they are getting back on their feet.
Rockdale Emergency Relief, Inc., an organization with 38 years experience aiding families in temporary crisis that live or work in this community with a variety of support services.
Goal - more than 20,000 nights of safety provided each year plus enablement
- Residential Transitional Care for Medically Fragile Children providing short term residential placement for children who are ready for discharge from the hospital but whose biological, foster or adoptive families are not ready to take him/her home. The program will also provide education and skills training, respite care and day care, for families and other care givers who care for medically fragile children.
Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, Inc.the only organization in Georgia to provide a comprehensive, hospital-to-home program for abused, neglected and abandoned medically fragile foster children who have no home or loving family to call their own.
